Placement

Placement

Placement in iSIMS is the process of assigning a student to an institution where they are required to complete a course. This may include work experience, practicum, or community service.

?? Important: Placing a student is not the same as registering them. Students must still register for the placement course in order to complete the process.

Prerequisites for Placement

Before you can place a student, the following must be done:

  1. Add Courses as Placement Courses

    • Go to Training > Placement Manager

    • Select the Courses tab

    • Choose the course from the list and click Save

    • This enables the course for placement

  2. Assign Supervisors

    • Go to Administration > Edit Users

    • Search for the staff user and click the Roles button

    • Under Other Roles, tick Placement Supervisor

    • This assigns the staff member to supervise placements

Placing a Student

  1. Go to Training > Placement Manager and click the Placement tab.

  2. Use the filters to locate the student.

  3. Click Place next to the student’s name.

  4. Select the Course, Institution, Supervisor(s), and provide supporting details.

  5. If a placement request exists for the institution, select it. If not, create a new request, then select and save it.

Special Cases

  • For TCJ/JBTE Practicum, students are assessed by two supervisors:

    • The first supervisor enters the grade for the major course.

    • The second supervisor enters the grade for the minor course.

  • For double major or non-major/minor courses, only one supervisor is required.

Automatic Scheduling

Once a placement is completed, iSIMS will automatically schedule the placement course (if it is not already scheduled).
Students must then register for the placement course(s) to complete the process.

Placement Documents

To make placement-related documents available to students:

  • Go to the Placement Documents tab.

  • Upload the relevant documents.

  • These will then be visible to students.
