Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Importance of Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your iSIMS account. Instead of relying only on a username and password, MFA requires an additional verification method such as a one-time code. This greatly reduces the risk of unauthorized access even if a password is compromised.

Enabling MFA helps to:

  • Protect sensitive student and staff data.

  • Prevent unauthorized access to financial, academic, and administrative records.

  • Strengthen overall institutional security compliance.

  • Provide peace of mind by ensuring only verified users can log in.

Enabling Multi-Factor Authentication

To enable MFA in iSIMS:

  1. Go to Administration → System Settings.

  2. Click the System Settings tab.

  3. Locate the setting for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

  4. Select Enable MFA.

  5. Save your changes.

Once enabled:

  • Users will be prompted to set up MFA the next time they log in.

  • Each user can choose from the following authentication options:

    1. Email verification – a one-time code will be sent to the user’s registered email.

    2. Google Authenticator app – the user scans a QR code and uses the app to generate verification codes.

    3. Microsoft Authenticator app – similar setup as Google Authenticator, providing app-based verification codes.

?? Note: Only system administrators with the required permissions can enable or disable MFA.
