Microsoft365 Integration

iSIMS was designed with the capabilities to be integrated with third party systems. Integrating with third party system allows us to extend the core functionalities of iSIMS. This document seeks to explain basic integration of iSIMS with Office365. The integration also covers some basic Office365 administrative tasks such as user account creation.

The basic integration of iSIMS and Office365 covers the following areas:

  • Authentication
  • Account creation

Authentication

Users accessing iSIMS will use the Microsoft option when signing in. The user will click on the Microsoft icon in the Login section of the site. Once clicked, they will be redirected to the Microsoft login page where they will enter their username and password. After successfully authenticating, the user will be redirected to iSIMS where iSIMS will complete the authentication of the user.

Account Creation – Student

Once a student is accepted and is at the status Registration and Orientation and/or Student in Training, iSIMS will automatically create an account for the student using the configured email address format. Custom configuration can also be added so that the account is created within your local active directory first.

Account Creation – Staff

An account will be created for staff when their account is created to iSIMS.

If an account is created manually for a student or staff, this must be added to iSIMS whenever the student or staff is added to iSIMS else iSIMS will attempt to create one for the student or staff. Students will be added to the default student group and staff will be added to the default staff group. All institution email addresses must be added to the institution email address field so that it cannot be modified by the user. The email address creation process runs every three (3) hours. This means that it will take up to three (3) hours for iSIMS to create and account for a student when they move to the applicable status or when a staff account is added to the system.
